Samsung's Looking At An Affordable Tizen Smartphone For India

Tizen has been Samsung's pet project for some time now, still we're yet to see anything concrete coming from the Korean brand. You might argue that Samsung Z is a Tizen based smartphone but if you may recall, this device was introduced only in Russia. Leading reports have now indicated about the possibility of an affordable Tizen smartphone being in the works, which will be launched in India very soon.

Sources have been quoted in the aforementioned report who have talked up a time frame of one month for the launch of Tizen smartphone in the country. In addition to that, there's more clarity as to what Samsung projects as an affordable smartphone. So, you should be highly expecting a 4 inch display smartphone with a dual-SIM option, 512 MB RAM and fitted with a 3.2 MP camera. The phone will be priced in the range of Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000.

Tizen as mobile platform is expected to compete with the likes Firefox OS from Mozilla, Sailfish OS from Jolla, the latest operating system newbie in the market. The might of Android will be tough nut to crack for all these platform flavours and especially for Samsung, Tizen could fall between their priorities.

Android has given them all the success and consumers highly prefer Android, more than any other OS for mobiles. So, for Samsung to really hit the right notes with the consumers, Tizen has to offer everything that Android delivers and even more.

Tizen has been jointly designed and created by Samsung and Intel, has all the attributes of an open source platform. Tizen 2.0 version is the last reported and sighted iteration of the OS and we fully expect the same to feature on the upcoming devices.

It is worth pointing out that Jolla has managed to deliver an interesting platform that supports Android apps and delivers a gesture-centric interface.
